Clay

Rolling pin or smooth stick plus guide sticks

Baking paper (optional)

Knife

How to

Find a flat surface, such as a tree stump. Get a ball of clay and a rolling pin and roll the clay out. Use two sticks of the same diameter, about 1.5cm, as guides when rolling the clay, so that it is a uniform thickness (photo A).

Choose a leaf or several leaves and arrange them on the flat surface of the clay.

Lightly roll over them to embed them slightly in the clay (photo B).

Carefully peel the leaves off and look at how the clay holds the details of the leaves. Can you see the veins or the marks of any hairs?

Cut off the edges of the clay so you are left with a clay tile. Poke two holes at the top so that you can nail it to the wall or put a string through to hang it up, once it has been fired.

If you want to fire your clay tiles, you need to leave them to dry for about a week.
